Today, I wanted to get to the bottom of the word “marketing”, why should we care, and how we can streamline it and be more efficient with it. 

 And the reason I thought this topic will be helpful to you is because we live in such a crowded world today and when social media could be useful to spread the word about what we do, if we don’t have a strategy and a plan around it, it could be very distrustful, overwhelming even very depressing at times.

We get bombarded every single day by professional marketers who’s job is to get our attention, create interest and desire to buy their stuff, and they’re very good at it.

And the way they do it is by knowing us, their ideal client avatar on a holistic level, so they know how to get our attention quickly by talking to our fears and pain points, then they create an interest and desire in their solution, and at the end we either get on their email list to get more of them or we end up purchasing what they sell, or both

And this is called marketing and as business owners if we want to get in front of more people and make more sales, we need to get very good at it, just like what the pro marketers are doing to us. 

We need to start thinking as marketers in our small businesses.

And the reason why we should care about marketing is because it helps us to get in the form of more new people who fit our ideal customer profile.

And if we want to stay in business, out # 1 Job is to tell our audience what we do,  why they should care and how they can get it.

It’s critical to understand that Marketing is Not Sales. However when it’s done right, it makes the selling process a lot easier.

To put it in one sentence, marketing is a process of getting people interested in your product or services before asking them for the sale.

And I guess most of you understand this concept and that we need to market ourselves and businesses behind us consistently in order to get our message in front of more people out there, right?

And we can do it in 3 ways:

Organically where we exchange our time for money.

Paid Marketing, where we exchange money for our time.

And another way is through partnerships w/ other brands that compliment what we do or sell, or joint ventures or affiliates.

So, by now you understand why marketing is one of the 3 most important components of having a profitable business either online or offline.

And because now most of the people are hanging out online that’s why having a consistent presence online to show up in front more potential customers is critical for the growth and health of your business, and this is also the answer to the second question I wanted to address why you should care about it?

And  of course the next obvious step solopreneurs take is to learn how to market their services online, so they start buy programs, or participate in a social media marketing challenge, or they hire a coach, or they hire a social media manager, or they decide to invest in a Facebook ads ... and still crickets…

Can you relate? I can.

And I get you because I’m one of you. I’ve spent tens of thousands of dollars in programs, FB & IG ads, short terms coaching, etc… and don’t get me wrong, it’s totally worth it but it took me 3 years to get to where I am today as far as building a business online, and I’m here to tell you that the first thing you need to do before you jump and rush into buying your next program or into hiring a social media manager, or into posting on social, and hustling yourself out of being on all social platforms at all times, is to really STOP first and  become aware of where you are today, what you want to be known as, your mission and your end goal, and then start building your strategy from the end in mind.

Because in reality, in order to be seen and stand out in the crowd, we need to show up consistently all the time, and to be successful with consistency, we need to think of ways to simplify & streamline our marketing process starting from our initial marketing strategy and goals, to the actual traffic and conversion methods that will help achieve these goals, into practical and simple steps that leave little room for error. 

Here are the 5 steps to go through in order to have more simple and streamlined process that  I want you to think about based on where you are in your business:

  1. Create your marketing goals first and always start with this in mind. Think about how you can make them SMART goals, specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, time-bound. And create a simple way to measure them.
  2. Figure out what the most effective marketing channels are to achieve those goals, considering where your audience is and where you enjoy to be the most. Social Media, Podcasts, Email, Website & Blogs, YouTube, LinkedIn.
  3. Do your own marketing research: research your market, competitors, your audience on a holistic level, and organize it, so you can access it at any time when you create your marketing materials.
  4. Figure out your marketing funnel and what type of content your ideal person will consume the best and of course you enjoy  creating it.  Audio, video, text,  infographics, webinars, challenges, virtual events,
  5. Decide on whether you’ll use organic, paid or joint venture opportunities to create awareness about your brand and it’s solutions.

If you are just starting, my suggestion is to start with a very minimal, 1 SM platform and once you get your flow of content going and you know your content categories and what your ideal person finds valuable, then you can jump on another platform and just repurpose the content that it’s working instead of creating more.

Start with 1 simple funnel. And I’ll tell you exactly how you can  create one in less than 5 minutes even when you don’t know the Tech  in the next episode. Because it could be very simple and still get you the outcome you want.

And also because I consider myself a marketer and I am in a habit of always testing and tweaking in everything I do, I’m tweaking this Podcast to a short 5-10 minutes episodes starting to produce them 2 x a week every Tuesday and Thursday for the next month instead of once every Wednesday.
