Today we start with a high level overview of marketing.

What is Marketing?

Marketing is simply getting in front of more people.

Well, we all understand that in order to stay in this business, we need to be in front of more people and find a way to position ourselves as the local or the online authority depending on what line of business we are, and your ideal customers GO TO EXPERT when it comes to your expertise and experience.

The Mistake we all make is jump into being everywhere online or offline and do all the things we are told will help us with this: 

do direct mail pieces, or sign up for Expired and FSBO leads providers, or buy Zillow or Realtor’s leads, or sign up for Bomb Bomb video deliveries, or for Buffini programs, or the newest CRM system w/ Lead generation option and website, or start a Facebook Ad Campaign, or sit at other agents Open Houses to generate buyer’s leads, or be part of many Facebook Groups to connect with people online, or post everyday online ...etc.

And when those are all ways to generate leads and are necessary for staying in business but if you’re in a season when you find yourself that you’re doing it all BUT YET, You still Don’t HAVE The Results You Know You’re Capable of, and You have invested tons of money in Ads, Programs, Software & Products and still CRICKETS!

The reason might be that either you’re focusing on the wrong activities, or your audience is not where you are, or your content is not converting because it’s very generic, or it could be simply because you never sat down to create a marketing strategy and plan to help you execute it.

There could be many things but my goal here is to shake up your reality a little and give you my perspective of marketing that might actually help you move forward.

When marketing should be a part of your budget for sure without a clear strategy and the why behind why you’re doing what you’re doing, and also setting SMART goals associated with that, 

Your marketing most likely will end up to frustration, overwhelm and tons of money in a drain.

To help you with this.

I want you to take a piece of paper ( if you’re not driving at least) and put down each service you’re currently paying money to and I’ll ask you to redecide if you should continue using this service.

I want you to look at the data, hopefully you have one.

How many leads did you generate using this service?

How many did you convert into clients?

How long have you been using this service? My rule of thumb is to invest for at least 3-6 consecutive months in order to have some data to make my decision from.

Do you have a system/a funnel/a process in place for new leads subscribed to go through when they get captured?

Also, before you make the decision to keep or not to keep these services, you  might go back to the drawing board and get some clarity about few things:

  1. Who do you serve? Your Niche. aka Your Target Audience. Where they are Online?
  2. What do you specialize in? First time Home Buyers, Downsize Sellers, Retirement Communities, REO Properties, Lake Properties, etc.?
  3. What is Your Brand? Your Personal Values, what do you stand for, your why?

Knowing Your Brand Values is what sets you apart from the competition, and what will attract your ideal person to you, to get to relate to you, start to engage with you, then start to know you more and even like you,  and finally trust you and get inspired to hire you to work with you.

In my opinion, the key to sustain in the long game as a brand, is to speak your truth and not to pretend to be someone that you’re not. Your uniqueness is what will make you different and will help you stand out from the crowd, so your people find you.

I’ve learned this the hard way.
